I love speaking. I started my career twenty years ago delivering conflict resolution training internationally, and educating groups about the issues I care about has been part of my career ever since. I can deliver sessions of varying lengths and interactivity on the following topics (full descriptions below the video clip):
- Creating More Human Organizations (based on my new book)
- Managing Conflict with Confidence
- Managing Generational Diversity in the Workplace
Here's a short clip of me speaking at a recent conference:
Session Descriptions
Creating More Human Organizations
Building off our newly released book, this presentation shows how we are currently in the midst of two worlds colliding. On one hand, social media has grown by leaps and bounds, using innovation to outpace even the most successful companies, and even fueling democratic revolutions around the world. On the other hand, our organizations are still operating on "best practices" from the 19th century. Modeled after machines, organizations have become increasingly dysfunctional, struggling with the adoption of social media, let alone realizing their full potential. The path out of this dangerous intersection is to create organizations that are more human. I demonstrate how the four human elements of open, trustworthy, generative, and courageous not only were at the foundation of social media's success but can also help us create organizations that can thrive in today's economy.
This session can be expanded into either a half-day or full-day session, or, for a really deep dive, a series of one-day sessions on each of the four human elements.
Managing Conflict with Confidence: 7 Tips for Effective Conflict Resolution
The problem is not conflict in the workplace. The problem is that we avoid conflict in the workplace, or even worse, handle it poorly. This session covers seven essential tips for dealing with conflict more effectively, transforming it from that uncomfortable topic that gets passed over at every meeting into something that employees at all levels can confront and handle, with less drama, in ways that solve ongoing problems. The session explores how to handle emotions more effectively, how to ask better questions, and how to give better feedback.
This session can be expanded into a half-day training session.
Managing Generational Diversity in the Workplace
There is a lot of hype around the topic of generations in the workplace. The complaints seem to be endless–from Millennials who are spoiled and entitled, to the cynical slackers of Generation X, to the self-absorbed Baby Boomers, there is no shortage of material out there designed to blame others for problems in our multi-generational organizations. My e-book on Generations cuts through this hype and presents a clear theory on generations that can be used to actually solve problems and manage differences in the workplace. This session covers the basics and offers advice on how to apply knowledge on generations to our actual work, from the way we design products and services to the way we structure our organizations.
This session can be expanded into a half-day training session, including one customized for managers.

Jamie Notter started his career in the field of international conflict resolution. He spent six years designing and delivering training programs in areas of ethnic conflict (if you get a chance, ask him about the awesome people on the island of Cyprus). Jamie then moved into working with organizations, initially as a diversity trainer and consultant, and later commanding his private management consulting practice, working extensively with trade associations and professional societies. In 2008 Jamie merged his company with MSP (an association management company) to create the consulting division. Jamie carries a master's degree in conflict resolution from George Mason University, and a Certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown, where he now serves as Adjunct Faculty. An avid writer, he has authored dozens of published articles to go along with a 2007 e-book Generational Diversity in the Workplace and in 2006 published We Have Always Done It That Way: 101 Things About Associations We Must Change. His most recent book, Humanize: How People-Centric Organizations Succeed in a Social World, was published in hardcover by Que Publishing in late 2011.
